Sustainable design in southern urban natural spaces - 3D printing in Puerto Williams FONDART project, funded by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage, Chile seeks to recover and enhance urban natural spaces in Puerto Williams, Chile through an experimental sustainable design installation. Using local clay and native mosses, the project generates public interventions that foster environmental awareness and the integration of biodiversity into the urban environment.
In response to the disconnection between humans and nature, this project adopts a non-anthropocentric approach, promoting multispecies design practices that prioritize ecological regeneration and resilience. Through biodegradable materials and collaborative processes, the initiative invites reflection on our interactions with the landscape and the importance of urban planning in harmony with native ecosystems.
Within the framework of the “Sustainable Design in Southern Urban Natural Spaces” project, funded by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage, Chile this project seeks to develop an experimental sustainable design installation using local clay to intervene in public spaces with native moss flora. This will create spaces for valuing natural heritage and restoring urban natural spaces in Puerto Williams. (Folio:637376)
In a context of disconnection between humans and nature, it is imperative to develop strategies to recover and value native ecosystems in their diversity. For many years, urban natural spaces have been filled and the focus of micro-landfills, prioritizing the construction of modern infrastructure over sustainable and environmentally friendly development. Today, with a resilient attitude and an appropriate legal framework, we have sustainable design tools and an ethical duty to change practices regarding natural spaces, designing in a multi-species, non-anthropocentric way.
This project proposes developing experimental installations using clay materials and local mosses for educational and sustainable purposes, focused on reflecting on our environmental practices and seeking to recover spaces of socio-environmental value within the city.
